Great Food for Keeping You Young.... and of course, SMARTER.

Okay, do you ever ask yourself how to be smarter?! Or I should say, everytime when exam approaches, you start memorizing sejarah but it won't get into your brain no matter how many gazillions time you try to memorize it over and over again. I guess most of you will start slamping the book and say: "why can't any of this get into my head???? " while your mind goes like: " I wish my brain was like the SRISCA (whose sir name's) "low" fella's brain... " ( no insultations ya~) :D

On a lighter note, a person really can become smarter by simply adding/changing your food. Some of these food might be yuck, but some... hahaha... will be a joy to you guys. But I need to assure you guys, it doesn't mean that you eat these food like for a whole week and think that you can get smarter... nor younger, of course. These food must be consume regularly, after quite some period, hmmm... you'll notice the effect of it. ;)

But on the other hand, don't over consume it. Remember, the right way is BALANCE. (<--- so biology teacher's quote man~ ) ha.

1. Olive Oil

Aiyar, ching cartene, stop blaming your mom for using olive oil in your family's dishes, she's done you good. :D

Use olive oil instead of normal cooking oil as a substitute. Olive oil contains polyphenols, it's a powerful antioxidants that may help prevent age-related diseases. And i can assure you that the word ANTIOXIDANT is surely good for your brain.

(*tip: highly antioxidant food is super-duper good for your brain.)

Okay, let's get our biology class started.

As you can read, the word antioxidant, comes from "anti-oxidant" , when it is broken down. The word anti means preventing ; and to those who studied biology or chemistry(or to those who don't, pls check the dictionary, tq), oxidant can also be referred as oxidise, right? Oxidise in chinese we call it 氧化. For example, if an apple oxidises, it will turn yellow and will start to rot. The same oxidation concept happens to our brain as we get older by age, and therefore, antioxidant food is essential for our brain to keep it alert and preventing it to "rot" (just like the apple)

Get it?! Phew~ *wink

2. Nuts

Nuts might be a little expensive. It can go up to Rm30++ for 1kg. I know it's siao la, someone can go bankrap just by eating nuts. But an alternate way is when you buy chocolates, indulge yourself by choosing those with nuts, like almond chocolate, they are really high in nutrients you know. ( But this doesn't mean that I encourage you to finish the whole bar of Cadbury or Ferrero Rocher la. After you gain few pounds then sui la right?! ) But still, you really should put nuts into your daily diet. Rm30 can last you for a month, just limit yourself by taking a handful per day, no more no less, so it's like rm1 per day... for a better brain leh, dai right???? :D

Oh sorry, straight to the point, nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats, so they offer benefits similar to those associated with olive oil. They're also concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals, including antioxidants. And of course fatty-acids which helps to nourish your brain, so it functions better. :)

3. Chocolate

I can hear chocolate lovers screaming. Oh well, the main ingredient in chocolate, cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia (a serious mental disorder caused by brain disease or injury, that affects the ability to think, remember and behave normally. 精神错乱)

Cocoa is also the highest natural source for Magnesium. Magnesium deficiency is linked with hypertension ( high blood pressure) , heart disease, diabetes, joint problems and pre-menstrual tension (PMT or PMS).

But please, don't over eat it okay?! Bear in mind, B.A.L.A.N.C.E. and control that craving of yours. Go for 75% and above dark chocolate, I know it doesn't taste as good as milk chocolate, but the higher the percentage, the higher the cocoa content. Think about it, normal chocolate which taste like heaven is normally added with plenty of sugar. Well you want a better brain? You know what to choose.

4. Yoghurt

Yeap, everyone favourite. I don't restrict much about this, but you can't eat too much of yoghurt as well.By eating too much yoghurt, one may occur indigestion, which your tummy will be bloated, and you won't feel very well, trust me, i've done lots of experiment. :) Actually too much consumption of dairy products will lead to the same effect. Dairy products (milk, yoghurt, cheese) are very hard for our stomach to digest, so yeah, indigestion will occur.

Yogurt is rich in calcium, which helps stave off osteoporosis (a condition in which the bones become weak and are easily broken, 骨质疏松症). It also contains "good bacteria" that help maintain gut health and diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness.

5. Blueberries

Blueberries are not the famous in our country, but if i say strawberries, will it be familiar??? heh. But well, these fruits are considered expensive to peeps like us. Maybe mummy will allow at the first time, but few times later, you can sure hear her screaming: " put that back, so expensive still wanna buy!" heh. For substitute, go for raisins/ prunes (Sunsweet tastes quite good). By the way, I read before that green apples are also highly anti-oxidant, so yeah~ an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Weeee~ (but remember to peel the skin off, banyak wax tau. )

Anyway, compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function. Get that?

That all for now, banyak tired man writing this post. More health infos to be shared. :D

p/s: Leaving for bangkok. Don't Miss Me!!!
