Foods That Build Bones.

Build bones? As in growing more bones? NO LA.... Building bones most probably meant by = preventing osteoporosis. But, maybe, just maybe, to those who wanna grow a bit more taller, and are so sick drinking milk every single day, or to those who are allergy to milk and thinks that you are destined to be SHORT, i've just found out some foods that might be useful for you, and your bones...rather than moo moo here, moo moo there. :)

1.Broccoli

Okay, this will be the first vegetable you'll be reaching for the next time you're in the hypermarket/pasar pagi. Hate it because its green? No more excuses, hand on Cauliflowers, which has the same nutritional value too. One cup of broccoli contains a hearty dose of calcium, as well as manganese, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron. It contains powerful anticancer properties, such as high concentration of vitamins—including A, C, and K.

2. Bananas.

Woohoo!!! One of my favourite local fruits around (does it relate to what zodiac I am??? HEH.) I eat bananas because it helps to cure oedema (水肿), it is rich in potassium which helps to flush out our exceed sodium intake in our body, which is the main course our body swells. Sodium locks water in our body system making it hard for the body to metabolise.

Honestly, I love eating it, most probably because it is SWEET. ==

But, don't overtake it, bananas are high in calories and starchy fruits which is all carbohydrates. To those who want to maintain a healthy weight, I suggest you by eating it in moderation.

Can't stand the banana craving? Treat it as your main meal and try to finish it during day time.

Athletes and performers are familiar with the calming effect of bananas—a result of the fruit's high concentration of tryptophan, a building block of serotonin (it is a type of chemical in the brain that affects how messages are sent from the brain to the body, and also affects how a person feels.) Therefore, whenever you're feeling depressed/unhappy, try indulging on bananas rather than banging the door okay??? *winks
Their real benefit comes from potassium, an electrolyte that helps prevent the loss of calcium from the body.

"One banana packs a day's worth of potassium, and its carbohydrate content speeds recovery after strenuous exercise."

3. Kiwi.

Scream again. That our all time favourite ones again managed to crawl into our bones list. Hehe.
No need for me to teach you, you'll already be running half way through the kitchen taking every single kiwi you can find and start munching yes??? Oh ya, before I forgotten, don't eat kiwi with yoghurt. Mind my words. DON'T EAT KIWI WITH YOGHURT. It will interupt the digestion of yoghurt occuring indigestion (which we learned the other day), it will cause bloated stomach. Disbelieve? Try it if you DARE. :)

This fuzzy fruit is high in bone-protecting potassium. They're also rich in vitamin C and lutein, a carotenoid that can help reduce the risk of heart disease. For beauty purpose, this highly vitamin C content fruit is also well known to achieve a fairer complexion.

Another surprising results is, it is recommended NOT to peel its skin while eating, because the skin is where nutrient accumalates.

4. Bak Choy.

Surprise no? That this crunchy cruciferous vegetable which is super famous especially among chinese dishes are listed. When going out eating, simply point out this popular vegetable which chinese loves cooking it with shrimp in brown sauce.

Bak choy is rich in bone-building calcium, as well as vitamins A and C, folic acid, iron, beta-carotene, and potassium. Potassium keeps your muscles and nerves in check while lowering your blood pressure, and research suggests that beta-carotene can reduce the risk of both lung and bladder cancers, as well as macular degeneration (视网膜黄斑退化).

5. Dried Prunes.

This gotta be in your to-eat list, not only packed with antioxidant, but also great for your bones? No kidding wei. :) Sunsweet better pay me for keep on advertising their prunes. :P
But another thing I wish to remind you guys is, when your eating either prunes/raisins, please please remember to wash it before eating. You'll be saving calories by washing away the additional sugar, and not just that, it helps to clean away the extra preservative clinging on to it too. So, don't be lazy~!!! Wash the damn thing!!!! :D

These dark shrivelers are rich in copper and boron, both of which can help prevent osteoporosis. They also contain a fiber called inulin, which, when broken down by intestinal bacteria, makes for a more acidic environment in the digestive tract. In other words it helps in digestion too. It facilitates calcium absorption, so that it makes sure that the bones get all the calcium needed.

On the other hand, prunes are a source of energy, because it is a main source of glucose. Therefore, enjoy four or five a day to strengthen your bones and boost your energy. ;)
